Why are we celebrating? Words of wisdom from co-founder Dr. Deb Cash helps to explain why. She says that
“The Human Services program has graduated nurses, police chiefs, ministers, and more. But the real reason I stayed to manage the program is because of two things. First, this was a degree program that helped students who put their lives on the line and always thought of the other person first. Secondly, I have never worked with such a collaborative and wonderfully creative group of students, staff, and professors. We had little resources, but lots of compassion for each other. We worked together to make the student the star. This may have been the first time they were put first in their career and possibly personal life.
Dr. Barden and Dr. Stannard-Friel [who co-founded the program] still know what is most important in education. That is to include all and engage the student to love learning and ask uncomfortable and difficult questions so that they can find their own truth. Academics and learning doesn’t have to be a bitter pill taken just to get more money. Increasing a person’s academic power can be life changing. This Human Services program and the Intensive Business degree program were created to help students as well as teachers to continue to think with open minds and hearts and to accept others with full respect.”
Definitely worthy of a celebration! Please join us!
