Fascinating question! I’d have different answers, depending on which past employer I was referring to and how I personally defined spirituality at that time in my life. I had a wonderful conversation last week with a researcher who is asking that question as she writes a book about the rise of spirituality in the workplace in Silicon Valley. Whether or not employers are using the word, “spirituality,” she has found that many are engaging their employees’ whole selves and are creating programs to address individual self-actualization. The conversation excited me because her research thus far shows this as a rising phenomenon with origins right here in the Bay Area. Imagine the implications, from personal and organizational perspectives.
Also, if you are working for an organization that has exciting new programs that support spiritual growth and you are willing to talk with her (she’s lovely) or know someone in your company (Facebook? Oracle? Others?) who are, let me know.
